The Veinviewer uses near-infrared light to detect vessels under the skin and projects a real time picture onto the surface. This works because the infrared light is absorbed by blood and reflected by surrounding tissue. This information is captured and processed and the software in the machine calculates where the vessels are. The result is projected in real time directly onto the surface of the skin – the green image you saw on the TV was this result. Quite amazing!
